Always verify publisher's information before sending your query. Verify the publisher's query preferences, contact information, genres of interest, and if the publisher is still open to queries.

Although QueryTracker tries to stay current, it is not always easy. Never trust any single source for publisher information (and yes, this includes QueryTracker).

Review the user comments for more information, and always follow exactly what it says on the publisher's website.

12/9/12 snail-mailed my YA fantasy query to the "Books for Young Readers" address (addressed to "Children's Editorial Department" as suggested by Writers Market).

1/17/13 SR -- form rejection, about as impersonal as you can get:

@crownhag and @trwprid:
Their "Contact us" page has two addresses, one for adult novels (18 West 18th Street), and one for their "Books for Young Readers" (175 Fifth Avenue), so be careful which address you submit to. If you sent it to the adult books address, and got a rejection from the "Books for Young Readers," maybe that means they both share the same letterhead for their rejection letters, as a cost-saving thing, I suppose!
