Always verify publisher's information before sending your query. Verify the publisher's query preferences, contact information, genres of interest, and if the publisher is still open to queries.

Although QueryTracker tries to stay current, it is not always easy. Never trust any single source for publisher information (and yes, this includes QueryTracker).

Review the user comments for more information, and always follow exactly what it says on the publisher's website.

Leave comments about your experiences with this publisher, or read what other authors have to say.

form rejection emailed to me on 6/1/2016

I called Boyds Mills Press on June 1 2016. (In retrospect, this was a mistake.) I was told that my manuscript had been received on March 7 2016. Then I was told that 90 days was the MINIMUM amount of time that a person could expect a response from them. That is not what their website says. Their website says that they respond WITHIN 3 months. Two hours after I had this phone conversation, I received an email from them rejecting my story with a standard form letter.

Here is the form letter:

Dear Author,
Thank you for sending us your work. Though we must decline
the opportunity to publish it, we wish you every success with
the project.
Please excuse this form letter, which we employ to respond to
all submissions promptly. Be assured your submission received
close consideration.

Sincerely,
The Editors
