Always verify agent's information before sending your query. Verify the agent's query preferences, contact information, genres of interest, and if the agent is still open to queries.

Although QueryTracker tries to stay current, it is not always easy. Never trust any single source for agent information (and yes, this includes QueryTracker).

Review the user comments for more information, and always follow exactly what it says on the agent's website.

And NEVER give money to an "agent".

I got my rejection already so she's definitely open!

Thank you so much for sharing your book with me, I truly appreciate your interest. I've had a chance to read and consider your work and can see how much you've invested in this. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm the right agent for this particular project, so I must pass. But I send this with gratitude and all good wishes for the future.

I queried her in July 2015 with a YA historical fantasy, got a full request in September 2015, and am still waiting. I nudged earlier this week and got a reply apologizing for the delay, so I hope she's working on catching up while she's closed to queries.

Update 10/10/16: Nudged with offer of rep; has promised to read by the date I asked. More in a few days!

Thanks for the update jeannel. I'm going to assume it was the auto-response issue and that my query doesn't get deleted.

Hi Patrick and Josey. I checked the website, and she did appear open, so I sent a query. The autoresponse now says:

Automatic Reply: Submission Received
Hello and many thanks for your submission!
This note confirms that I’ve received your query. I’ll reply to let you know if I’m interested in seeing more of your work etc. etc.

So Josey, perhaps she had just forgotten to turn off the old autoresponse at that point. Good luck!

Hey Patrick,
I queried Susan yesterday after seeing on the Bent Agency blog that she was reopening on Oct 5 but got a bounce back response that she was closed and all queries not requested via pitch parties etc. would be deleted. So I'm not sure she is open again.

I'd say go for it. She's a wonderful agent at a fabulous agency and my guess is that she'd be okay with a quick check-in after 9 months. If it eases your mind, then that's all to the good. There's a huge difference between checking in at 9 months and checking in at 9 days. She'll probably respond with an 'It's still under consideration' email and that's okay too. :) Best wishes to you!

Irey_West and moonwatch178, she requested my full on November 3, 2015, and I sent it the same day. I haven't heard back from her either, though I certainly will post if/when I do. Am considering nudging her despite historical evidence that it may take a year (or more!) to hear from her, but not sure...

I don't think she's stopped responding to submissions. My guess is that she is significantly backlogged. I sent my original sub in November 2015 and then sent a revised version in April after Ms. Hawk was kind enough to let me send along a newer version. I haven't heard back yet, but I figure I've been bumped down the queue. And from what I can see on the TimeLine it looks like there have been a couple instances where someone got an offer of rep and was jumped to the head of the line and there's a sub (other than mine) still waiting from november/december.

Hang tight and hopefully you hear back soon.

Does anybody know if she's stopped responding to submissions? I sent in a full in January and haven't heard anything since, not even from my nudge letters. I realize she's closed to queries but the email that I use isn't her query email - so it shouldn't be sorted out right?
