Discovered that I had attached rather than pasting my partial request from a month ago.

Quickly apologized profusely and sent a corrected version.

Received confirmation that he'd gotten it an all was well on that front, at least.

Thank goodness for nice people and if you ever find yourself attaching something, go ahead and triple check if you're supposed to be doing that.

6/16 Partial Request from #querykombat
7/27 ER - said that he appreciated the themes and writing, but he just wasn't connecting as much as he would need to represent. I actually really appreciate his words: he made it clear that there was nothing actually *wrong* it just wasn't for him.

@chriskepner One thing I've noticed other agents who are "no response means no" to queries, which is super helpful to those querying, is to update the date through which you have read queries. So "I have read and requested all queries through (date). If you have not received a response, please assume it is a pass from me."

I like this because it's a good compromise between your time (you only have to update one place, rather than sending a hundred emails) and our anxiety (we know when to stop worrying about it). I know a few agents update via twitter or their webpage.

Totally just a suggestion!

@chriskepner, you're sweet for saying so and for responding here. One thing that might help is to give us a time frame after which to assume it's a pass. My query age here says 70 days today (from an #DVPit request), so should I assume that's a no, or would you rather I check in? Thanks!

@Buffalo: No, I endeavor to respond to all full manuscript requests, but I admit to being a slow reader and I welcome authors to check in with me for status updates.

I appreciate all of you QueryTracker users who reach out to me about your projects. I have noticed that your queries are typically of higher quality than those from authors who do not use this resource, and I hope you'll continue to send me queries even if I'm not the most responsive agent.
