UPDATE: Since Katharine sent me a highly personalized rejection for one novel, I decided to query her with my other novel. She got back to me the same day (yesterday), also with a very personalized rejection. Her response was incredibly helpful, and I intend to change my query to address the points she mentioned. I wish her response had been a request, but I'm very grateful for her words, as they opened my eyes to some things I wasn't seeing. I will definitely query this agency with my next novel. I'm feeling very encouraged and excited to finish my current WIP.
I received a very personalized email rejection from Katherine Sands (even though I sent my original email query to Sarah Jane). Despite being rejected, I was absolutely thrilled to get any response from her, since it looks like from the Data Explorer tool that not many authors receive a response, or at least return here to log it. This means she found my query at least worthy of a serious look (rare in this age of mass-purges, and no-response=rejection).
The feedback was legit and applicable, with the exception of one part. A specific thing happens to my character repeatedly through the novel, which is part of the mystery and story arc, and isn't revealed until the end of the novel. Katharine wrote, "the distinctive logic behind [this character's specific event] remained too withheld for me." So I'm left wondering if the agency wanted more of a full synopsis, in which I reveal the spoilers... or if I need to adjust my query letter to focus harder on the fact that this event is part of the mystery that needs to be solved. (Note: I probably will adjust my query, at least a little bit).

However today (8/23), I received a rejection for a query I sent on 5/22 and had marked as CNR. Not only did I receive a rejection from this agency for the first time since I first queried in 2016, I received two!
Edit: Received a second rejection for my 7/18 query. This rejection focused more on personal preference against my manuscript's pessimistic themes (apparently failure is lower stakes than success). This isn't too bad, and other agents have expressed similar sentiments. However, Katharine also included a craft essay, complete with a registered trademark, with helpful bon mots such as "The most successful first pages orient, engage, and propel". I appreciate the sentiment, but how is revising my query going to change the agent's opinions on thematic matters? "Your manuscript sounds too sad and depressing for my tastes; Pivot and propel! Who, where, when, and why!"
